2025 Y7 Final Report

Delegation Information

May 6-9, 2025

David Burge (Head Delegate), Tam Pham (EDI Coordinator), Jaclyn Hiebert (Communications Coordinator), and Kebrija Leeks-Kottick (Engagement Coordinator) attended the Youth 7 (Y7) Summit on behalf of Young Diplomats of Canada.

Key Insights and Lessons Learned

  • Given that youth are both the future and the present, forward-thinking approaches are essential when shaping Y7 recommendations.

  • With the summit condensed into a single week, the experience tends to be both high-pressure and deeply rewarding. Completing substantial track work in advance allows for more time during the summit to refine and finalize recommendations.

  • While digital media offers broad reach, engaging with traditional media remains an important strategy for promoting Y7 initiatives.

  • Schedule flexibility is often key when collaborating with international delegates across multiple time zones.

  • Strong interpersonal dynamics often play a key role in negotiations, with positive delegate relationships enhancing the ability to advance core recommendations.
