Ottawa, ON
Sasha Emery is a francophone youth born in NWT and raised on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council (Whitehorse, Yukon). She completed a bilingual BA in environmental and urban studies at the University of Ottawa. A big part of her climate activism consists of advocating for the needs of Northern communities that disproportionately face the effects of climate change as a member of the Prime Minister's Youth Council and the Natural Resources Canada Youth Council. She is passionate about the intersectionality within the climate movement and how the UN's Sustainable Development Goals can shape new pathways.
She strives to make decision-making spaces more accessible for young people and has represented Canadian youth interests at the 2024 UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York City with Young Diplomats of Canada. In her free time, she co-created and co-hosts a for youth by youth podcast called “Conversations climatiques” (Climate Conversations) where she shares resources on climate anxiety and a diversity of environmental topics for young francophones in minority-language settings. She was named one of the Starfish Canada's Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25. Sasha hopes to inspire young people to take action and to be the change they want to see in the world.
