Janica Arevalo (she/her) is a proud Filipina-Canadian and a born and raised Ottawan. She completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in political science with a minor in employment relations from Queen’s University. She is currently an MA candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Western Ontario. She is an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) recipient, including support through the Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy award.
Janica’s passion for advocacy and engaged citizenship work is reflected in her experience working with various equity-deserving communities. Her time at Queen’s allowed her to serve as an equity ambassador under the Queen’s Undergraduate Admissions Access and Inclusion team to support racialized and first-generation students, in addition to serving as Community Outreach Commissioner for her faculty student government to support 12 non-profits in the city of Kingston. Janica has also dedicated her time to volunteering for local organizations supporting newcomers and youth. In her free time, Janica enjoys pilates, crafting, and cooking.
