Edmonton, AB
Angelina Raina is a Kashmiri-Canadian student leader, public policy advocate, and youth organizer studying Political Science and Economics at the University of Alberta. She serves in student governance as Vice-President External of the University of Alberta Students’ Union, representing the perspectives of more than 39,000 undergraduate students. Her work is grounded in a commitment to youth participation, responsive political institutions, and ensuring that underrepresented voices have a meaningful role in shaping public policy.
Angelina previously worked with the City of Edmonton as a council assistant, supporting municipal government and community engagement. During her time with the City, she led a homelessness education initiative that brought together frontline workers, service providers, city administration, and community leagues to build understanding, reduce stigma, and strengthen community support for responses to homelessness.
As a member of the inaugural Civic Youth Fellowship cohort, Angelina gained practical experience in political organizing and policy advocacy, an experience she credits as a catalyst for her entry into public life. Her work in election canvassing eventually led to her own successful campaign for elected office at the University of Alberta, creating a full-circle transition from working for an elected official to representing students herself.
Angelina’s advocacy focuses on human rights, anti-racism, and youth participation in decision-making. She works to create opportunities for BIPOC youth and young women to participate in civic life through student governance, youth organizing, mentorship, and community engagement. Her work centres on ensuring young people are not simply consulted by public institutions, but have a direct role in shaping policy and making decisions that affect their communities.
