Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Madelyn (Maddy) Rawlyk is a proud Ukrainian Canadian currently working as a Junior International Climate Policy Consultant at the United Nations Development Program in Viet Nam. She was introduced to YDC through her role as a delegate for the Y20 Summit 2025 in South Africa as the Communications Coordinator and negotiated on Track 5, Inclusive Social Development. Guided by her passion for gender equality and climate action, Maddy’s work at UNDP focuses on nature-based solutions and climate finance to support enhanced climate resilience and women’s economic empowerment in Viet Nam.

Maddy recently graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Master of Arts in Global Governance (2025) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Saskatchewan (2023). Prior to her move to Viet Nam, Maddy was a Global Governance Research Fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs where she researched Canada’s green industrial transition. Inspired by climate politics in Saskatchewan, her original research on climate change communication in Western Canada is published in Sustainability Science. Overall, Maddy is interested in exploring the role of the private sector in climate governance, and through her research aims to advance climate justice and sustainable consumption systems. Her time as a delegate for the Y20 Summit brought her renewed passion for policy advocacy, and she looks forward to supporting YDC’s mission to empower young Canadians to partake in global decision-making spaces as a Communications Advisor.
